Sir,
I have the honour, with reference to Mr. Morgan's despatch No.361 of the 17th June, to inform you that, according to a telegram received from His Majesty's Consul at Trebizond on the 28th June, the rising in the Dersim area appears now to have been effactively quelled.
2. Mr, Matthewa learns from a reliable source that the last body of rebels, numbering between 500 and 600 men, surrendered to the authorities on or about the 24th June. The lössea sustained by the Government troops are believed not to have been heavy, but there are said to hıave been considerable losses among the gendarmerie and in the Air arm, which played an important part in suppressing the rising. Great enthusiasm was manifested in the Turkish press when it was reported that Sabiha Gökgen, one of Atatürk's adopted daughters and a notable - Aviatrix,. had successfully bombarded one of the rebel strongholds.
3. Mr hFavtthews is informed that martial law is in force in the disaffected areas, although postal end telegraphic communications are maintained. It is stated that many of the leading rebels who have surrendered are to be hanged.
4, The British Pro-Consul at Merain also reports that local opinion is unanimous in regarding the rising as ... The Right Honourable
